The Better Coffee Office — Open Call
The Better Coffee Office is opening to new members: a paid, remote-first role for coffee people ready to lead, build, and share responsibility across the system. Applications close August 5.
We're looking for new members of The Better Coffee Office.
We are keeping the number of places open. It will depend on the people, their skills, and the areas they are ready to lead and develop.
THE ROLE
Member of The Better Coffee Office — Structural Coordination.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You help shape The Better Coffee and take part in decisions about the development of the whole system.
You coordinate activity across The Better Coffee Endeavour and its structures.
You create projects, tools, documents, relationships, and sources of revenue.
You talk with coffee people, partners, sponsors, investors, and anyone interested in The Places, The Trainers, The Curriculum, The Ranking Method, and Pay-It-Forward.
You work across areas like sales, marketing, communications, funding, documentation, research, digital infrastructure, and system development — depending on your skills and the areas you are ready to lead and develop.
Every member of The Office knows the whole system, has access to information, and takes part in shared decisions. Each task has a lead, while its consequences remain a shared responsibility.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
People who start things on their own and carry them through to a real result.
People who can hold several things in mind at once — the people involved, the system, the money, and the political, social, operational, and economic consequences of a decision.
People oriented toward better — working ethically, with the future in view, in line with the 20 Core Values of The Better Coffee.
People who work well across disciplines and find their footing in situations that come without instructions.
What counts:
— commitment and responsibility,
— attentiveness to people, the ability to listen and work with perspectives unlike your own,
— cooperation grounded in equality and autonomy,
— agency,
— the ability to create projects, relationships, and revenue,
— readiness to learn, apply, and develop The Better Coffee Standard.
Experience in coffee and in multidisciplinary projects is required.
The role is remote-first, wherever you are. Some of the work happens in the field — at origin, in roasteries and cafés, at events, and wherever coffee people are.
You decide your own availability. This role requires real time, presence, and continuity.
ABOUT MONEY — PLAINLY
The Better Coffee generates work and earning opportunities through licenses, courses, The Ranking Method, projects with The Places and The Trainers, partnerships, sponsorship, investment, and Pay-It-Forward.
Work also comes from tasks delegated to The Office by other structures — including communication, marketing, international sales, course organization, production coordination, and long-term planning.
Members of The Office develop these mechanisms and are paid for it.
The compensation range remains open because we set the economic model together before the work begins. It can mean a salary, a share of revenue, project-based payment, or some combination of the three.
The Office funds the work of its members, the development of the system, and its operational and administrative costs. Any surplus goes toward access, redistribution, and the continuity of the system — through Pay-It-Forward, among other channels.
Every member builds their own economic position through the responsibility they hold, the work they do, and the revenue they help create.
Capitalism would use the word co-founder here. The difference is that you're not starting from zero.
We call it membership in The Better Coffee Office.
HOW TO APPLY
Get to know The Better Coffee first.
Before you apply, read The Better Coffee Standard — or at minimum, go through the system descriptions at thebettercoffee.org.
The document behind this role.
The Better Coffee Standard defines the values, language, and structures you will work with. The full edition is free.
Your application should be text only. Paste it directly into the body of an email or attach it as a .txt file. English is preferred.
Tell us:
— Who are you, and what are you doing now?
— What's your experience in coffee?
— What's your experience with projects that bring together different fields, people, or organizations?
— In which areas of The Office are your skills strongest?
— Which areas do you want to lead and develop?
— How much time can you realistically give to working together?
Add a short piece of writing — up to 500 words:
In your own voice, tell us how you understand work, money, power, and cooperation in coffee — and where you see alignment, tensions, or open questions in relation to the 20 Core Values of The Better Coffee.
Write about whichever values best reveal how you think about coffee and the system around it. We want to understand your position, not read a summary of The Better Coffee Standard.
Applications close August 5, 2026.
Once the call closes, everyone gets a reply. Those moving forward will be invited to the next stage; to everyone else, our thanks for applying and for the time you gave it.
For those selected, the next stage will be The Better Coffee Blueprint — a mandatory course offered free of charge on August 12, 2026.
After that, we will meet one-to-one and agree on how you will join The Office, your areas of activity, and the economic model.
The Office is open.
Tell us what you can lead, build, and carry.
